Ambertone listens to the sound on your Mac to draw it. That sound never leaves your Mac: it is not recorded, stored or sent anywhere. Everything below is about the little that does leave.
Anonymous usage statistics (the app)
The app sends anonymous usage signals through TelemetryDeck. They help decide which skins to make next.
What is sent:
- Six kinds of event: the app opened, a skin was chosen, a skin was tried, the buy button was pressed, a key was activated, and how long each skin was open and how much of that time sound was playing.
- With each: your time zone and language, the macOS version, the chip generation (such as M3), the screen size, the app version, the week the app was first opened, which player is in use (Spotify, Music or none) and the time of day in four bands.
- A device identifier made at random on your Mac, hashed before it leaves.
What is never sent:
- Your name, email address or IP address; license keys; the music itself, or the names of tracks and artists.
You can turn it off at any time in the app's settings (Send usage). When it is off, nothing is sent, and what was counted before is thrown away.
Buying a skin
Payment is handled by Stripe; your card details go to Stripe and never reach us. When a payment completes we keep the license key, which skins it unlocks, the Stripe payment reference and the email address you gave Stripe, so a key can be recovered or refunded.
When the app activates a key it sends the key, a random device identifier and the app version. We count how many devices use a key; there is no limit.
This website
No analytics, no advertising and no cookies. Your language choice is remembered in your browser's local storage and is never sent to us. The site and its server are hosted on Cloudflare, which keeps standard request logs.
When you download the app, we count it. For each download we keep the time, the country (from Cloudflare), the file name, the operating system your browser names (such as macOS) and the name of the site that linked to it — not your IP address, not your browser's full details, not the full address of that page.
